In the book I cover every aspect of spin bowling imaginable. All the spin disciplines are covered, such as off-spin bowling, leg-spin bowling, right and left handed spinners and even 'carrom' bowling as used by Mendis from Sri Lanka. I also go into techniques not seen today, such as the spin bowlers from Australia in the 1950's.
All our topics are covered in the greatest detail. Have a look at an extract here:
How To Bowl A Doosra
The doosra is bowled by an off-spinner. Unlike the traditional off-break that spins into the batsman from the off, this ball behaves more like a leg-spin delivery and spins from leg to off. Therefore, this ball is a surprise variation for a typical off-spin bowler.
The doosra (meaning 'the other one') was first perfected by Saqlain Mustaq but was made famous by Muttiah Muralitharan. Other notable bowlers to use this delivery with big success are Saeed Ajmal Harbajan Sing and Johan Botha. In fact, this ball is almost used as stock delivery by Saeed Ajmal.
The delivery has caused a bit of controversy with Muralitharan, Botha and Ajmal being reported for throwing when using the doosra. All of these bowlers have corrected their action and now deliver a legal doosra. The delivery does require a bigger bend of the elbow than other deliveries, but can most certainly be bowled with a legal action. The maximum amount your elbow may bend is 15º and without any straightening of the arm.
There are two ways to bowl the doosra. If you want to use the doosra as a surprise variation then I would recommend Method #1. However, if you would prefer to use the doosra as your stock delivery then Method #2 would be the best
.
Method 1
This method is best if you want to use it as a surprise variation as the action is the same as the standard off-spin action and easier to hide from the batsman. Therefore, it is very effective in deceiving batsmen when they expect the ball to turn the other way. The drawback of this method is that the ball does not turn very much and is thus not as effective as a stock delivery.

(the grip is shown and described in the ebook)
Action
As you are using the doosra here as a stock ball, you must stick to your standard off-spinner's side on action.
Just Before Release
To disguise the doosra, follow a regular bowling action similar to bowling an off-spin delivery. Just before the time of the release, you will rotate the wrist so that the back of the hand faces a square leg. Drop your shoulder (of the delivery arm) and bend the elbow a little more than during the standard off-break delivery. Your point of delivery will be a little lower than your off-spin stock delivery.
Figure: Off-Spin Doosra Grip and Wrist Position (Method #1)
At Release
At the time of the release, your wrist should be facing towards square leg and your fingers should spin the ball similar to an off-break. The changed wrist position causes the ball to behave like a leg-break. This finger spin along with the rotation from the wrist and shoulder imparts the spin to leg-break.
The doosra can be bowled with plenty flight or as a quicker delivery just like the standard off spin
Method #2
This method is best if you want to use the doosra as your stock delivery as it will be very difficult to hide it from your stock delivery. The ball turns very big with this method if you get it right. It is not as effective for a surprise delivery as the action (at release of the ball) is quite different from the standard off-spin action.
The Grip
(the grip is described in the ebook)
The Action
Here is where you depart from the standard off-spinner's action. The action for this variation of the doosra should be more front-on with your chest facing the batsman.
Figure: Open Chest Action (for Doosra Method #2)
Just Before Release
Just before release the wrist is rotated so that the back of the hand face 1st slip.
Figure: Off-Spin Doosra Grip and Wrist Position (Method #2)
At release
The ball is released out of the front of the hand over the fingers with the fingers pointing to 1st slip just after release. The ball should be released with a whipping action and therefore a flexible wrist is essential. The spin is created by a combination of finger and wrist spin, as opposed to mostly finger spin in Method #1.
Doosra Tips
A great tip if you struggle to ...... (this tip is available in the full version of the book)
Effectively hiding these two deliveries is key in the success of the doosra. If batsmen struggle to discern between your standard off-spin ball and the doosra you will be taking many wickets indeed!
Strengthen your wrist and shoulder in the gym as the doosra puts a lot of strain on these parts during the delivery.
Although the finger spin helps, most of the effectiveness of the doosra comes from the ...... (this tip is available in full version of the book)
The doosra is most effective when pitched on the off and middle on a good length and its breaking away from the batsman can result in an edge, batsman being bowled or also being stumped depending upon the flight, length and amount of spin. This is because with that line the batsman will be trying to play the off-spin delivery to the leg-side and can easily result in a leading edge if the doosra spins to the off-side.
If the pitch is rough on the leg-side (for a right handed batsman) the doosra allows for the extra options of attacking the batsmen from around the wicket and bowling into this rough. Previously it was only a leg-spin bowler who had this option, but now an off-spinner can do this as a stock delivery!
